07:45 am - Oh crud, not again.

After I got back from RCFM I had a sore throat. No headache, no queasiness, just a sore throat. Well, I'm back from MFF and guess what? Yep, sore throat. It seems to have peaked last night or this morning and is on a slow decline, but still enough that it gets my attention. I don't know if the Halls Defense stuff (which i started taking before leaving for MFF) is having an effect, but short term use shouldn't hurt.

I'd blame travel, but it's just as long (or longer *grumble*) to get to there as to return. I stayed hydrated. Maybe it's the exposure to exhaust on the more crowded highways and in larger cities? Maybe it's that I wind up talking more and louder than normal. For all I know I was singing along to the tape too much. I'd just like to know what was causing the sore throat so I can avoid it in the future. Sure, it's not nearly as bad as a kidney stone, but it's still something I'd prefer to avoid. Oddly, it doesn't seem to start until the day after I return.

altivo:
Sounds like the symptoms of stressed or strained vocal cords. This often takes effect 8-12 hours after the strain. Sore throat may occur, accompanied usually by hoarseness or even laryngitis.

My partner frequently gets this after being in crowded and exciting (to him) places for too long. He talks too much, and being a normally soft spoken person, tries too hard to make himself heard over background noise. Though I have to admit that the three or four times I saw you, I didn't think you were doing nearly enough talking to bring this on, it is a possibility.

You travel to Ren faires a lot too, though. Do you get it from those or only from furfests? Maybe you're allergic to (gasp) fake fur.

vakkotaur:
The vocal strain could well be it. I don't seem to have it from renfaires, but I seldom have long trips to them, and then not solo. My two furcon drives (Jay and I flew to AC03) have been solo and I'm apt to sing along with the tape which might be the problem.

Also may well have been talking louder and a bit more often that I am used to.

If this is an allergy, it's new to me. I really don't have allergies to speak of. The one reaction that comes to mind is that I cannot use Mennen regular scent deodorant for more than a couple days or it just gets irritating. The unscented stuff isn't a problem.

Current Mood: sore throaty
