 | 08:30 pm - Sweeney Todd
Visiting Sistaur this weekend included going to see Sweeney Todd. I had not seen any other version and until only a couple days before didn't really know what it was about at all.
Without spoiling anything, I can say that it certainly had Tim Burton's stamp on it and it worked. There might have been a bit more blood than I really cared for, but it was never inappropriate as a horror movie might get to be. This was a musical comedy and a musical tragedy (if that's a spoiler, life is full of [nasty] surprises for you), with a set up and setting that could have been the makings for horror film but was better than that.
I won't be rushing out to see it again, nor will I be rushing to get the DVD when it comes out. It's a good movie, but for me it's in the category of movies I that wouldn't go out of my way to see again, but wouldn't change the TV channel to avoid either.

 | 11:00 pm - "A lovely man."
Often when I visit sistaur we watch some Doctor Who, either classic or new series. She's noticed something about the commentary tracks on Doctor Who DVDs.
At some point one of the commenters will speak of some fellow who has passed away or just isn't in the studio with them doing the commentary and will describe him as "a lovely man." I'm not sure if this the case on every commentary track, but if not it's certainly quite common.
This past weekend we watched Tom Baker in Pyramids of Mars and listened to the commentary. Sure enough, within the first few minutes someone was referred to as "a lovely man."
