 | 10:15 pm - No deliveries today.
No deliveries today. Instead it a was a photo shoot day. A bunch of photos, some of which might wind up being used for the 2009 calendar. Some photos by a corn field, some at park, and even at and in a genuine get-in-and-close-the-door phone booth. I didn't change in there, Superman style. No reason to change clothes (I got keep them on for all the photos this time. I liked this shoot.), not enough room in there, and it wasn't that old a phone booth that it had opaque sides. Those aren't all of the places, but there are lots of photos. I have no idea which ones will be used, if any. I haven't even seen any of them yet.

 | 12:36 am - Hackgate '08 So, what appears to be Russian hackers have been taking down journals and communities over on LJ -- posting a link to a Russian site with commenting turned off, and then going back through the journal or community and deleting everything, changing the journal passwords and e-mail addresses, and gods know what else. Copperbadge ( sams_cafe over here) was just hit really bad, and I know I saw the wga_supporters community go down last week, along with it's maintainer's journal.
Does anyone know exactly how many journals were hit, or what LJ has been doing about it (if anything)? I haven't seen any news anywhere, other than on the journals of the individuals involved. (And now I'm curious, now that I've... you know, backed up my journal and made sure my current e-mail address was validated...)

 | 05:32 pm - My Fursona Meme Im taking a page from babsbunny (FA Account)
1. Kat's hairstyle is based off of Tina Turner and David Bowie style hairdo's from the 80s
2. She has varying degrees of anthropomorphism, sometimes being more human in the face and can often be walking plantigrade
3. I started to draw her even before I knew of furry
4. Kat is not a very original name but it was the only thing that came to me and spoke true. Besides, its not like her player has an original name in the human world you know
5. The few drawings made of Kat alude to her possibly being pyrokinetic
6. Kat likes her meat rare (but of course!)
7. The amount of commissions from other artists to draw her or do a badge of her can be counted on one hand.
8. Kat once interacted with a human me in one of my first drawings of her
Now....its your turn! Current Location: 92325 Current Mood: working

announcements [squeaky]
 | 02:27 pm - Firefox and the rich text editor Mozilla recently release a security update to 2.0 version of firefox. This version, 2.0.0.17, causes issues with our Rich Text Editor and therefore breaks the update page. Until we can come up with a resolution for this, either upgrade firefox to 2.5 or 3.0, or use a different browser. You can also use the mobile update page at http://www.insanejournal.com/mobile/post.bml

 | 01:48 pm - Probably Useless. Combatting Fuzzy Logic I sometimes feel like Im clueless here at work. However, I think I might finally understand why I get feelings of "I dont know what they want of me."
Background: My job is in SoCal. We have a server that is all the way in AZ state. It is accessed by 2 locations -- our SoCal office and Beijing (where our programmers are). For security reasons, the server has a connection limit of 2 or 3 people when it comes to doing any remote desktop action from SoCal or Beijing. Also, I have 2 FTP accounts....one that connects to one folder and another that connects to sister folders (which I have to change out whenever Im going from one folder to another -- basically A.L. at work only wants to give me 2 FTP logins--one to a demo area and the other changes depending on which customer I need to access the CSS/HTML of.
So, today I found myself unable to FTP to one of the flexifolders (call this customer C3). It said permission was denied. So, I had to wait to access the server and check permissions of that folder. Of course it was set to "read-only". Problem was, all attempts to remove the "read-only" attribute to that folder so that I could FTP failed, as the folder would revert back to read-only within a second. I tried other ideas for a few minutes and did not succeed. So I asked A.L. (he is here at work. Not IT guy but the coworker with the most access within this office) about it. He goes ahead and tries a few things til it is fixed. He tells me there are 3 places where security policies are set. I use this as opportunity to learn more so that I can fix this in the future without having to wait for a busy A.L. to make it right for me. The exchange went like this:
AL: there are three locations where the security policies are set Me: ah, and I assume that I dont have access to the other 2, right? AL: you don't have to worry about it anymore
***
Yeah, that was that. Honestly, this isnt the first time that I have come up against this brick wall in the knowledge department. Lately I have been getting more and more tired of it and all attempts to address this seem to be met with "just do it". This makes me wonder yet again on how do I really do my job. I have been trying to fulfill what I was hired for--someone who can be creative and think and be resourceful. How do I do that when it seems I am supposed to be spoonfed the answers (and I have to wait on that, which involves me throwing that task into the backburner). Any attempt to gain info which would allow me to be resourceful and proactive is like pulling teeth. I have tried to use the saying of "Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him how to fish and he will eat for a lifetime." but it seems that they think it is not time efficient for this. Go fig.

| 04:22 am - News Flash: issue with the Rich Text Editor
http://community.livejournal.com/the_lj_herald/95721.html "If you are using the Rich Text Editor to post an entry with an lj-cut, and the text behind the cut includes certain kinds of formatted text, such as a LiveJournal user link, the lj-cut may not display correctly. Developers are aware of this issue and are working to correct it." (Source)
Edit (Sep. 12, 04:30am GMT): this should have been fixed by release #38.

http://community.livejournal.com/the_lj_herald/96976.html Current Known Issue- Edit (Sep. 25, 6:10pm GMT): "The main text box on the Post an Entry page is not loading for users who are trying to access the Rich Text Editor in Firefox 2.0.0.17. Developers are aware of this issue, but do not anticipate a fix. If you are using Firefox 2.0.0.17 to access LiveJournal, you can post entries by changing your default editor to the HTML Editor. Alternatively, you may wish to upgrade to Firefox 3, use another browser to access LiveJournal, or use a downloadable client to post entries in your journal" (Source)
Upcoming Change- A new option to view all journals and communities in one's own style will be implemented. One can currently only view comments in their own style if they "follow a comment link from their Friends page". (Source)

ideas [mistijuel]
 | 01:47 pm I dunno if this has been suggested before, so I apologise if it has. However, I think this would be highly useful, and maybe not too hard to complete?
Basically, it would be nice if the option to receive invitations for communities via email (http://www.insanejournal.com/manage/subscriptions/) was marked as default for new accounts?

http://community.livejournal.com/the_lj_herald/96720.html "Users who compose their journal entries in Microsoft Word and then copy and paste those entries into the Rich Text Editor have been experiencing some problems with formatting and lj-cuts. LiveJournal developers are aware of these problems and are working to resolve them. Please watch the lj_releases community for an announcement of a fix once it has been released. In the meantime, you may wish to type your entries directly on the Post an Entry page or use a downloadable client to compose your entries so that your formatting and lj-cuts will display correctly."
